Hi FAU Family! Zoom rolled out updates for Zoom’s web portal and desktop app in late July. Here are a few features and helpful information for your future Zooming experiences.
Users who sign in to FAU Zoom online will expect to see:
- End of support for Internet Explorer 11
- Microsoft will be ending support for Internet Explorer (IE) 11 on August 17th, 2021, which means Zoom will end support for IE on September 30th, 2021. Please login to Zoom using alternate browsers, like Chrome or Firefox.
- Mute and turn off video for participants joining a meeting with recording in progress
- When a participant joins a meeting that is already being recorded or live-streamed, they will automatically have their microphone muted and video turned off. Once the participant consents to being recorded, their settings will revert back to the default for that user or meeting.
Users who sign in to Zoom through the Desktop app, also known as the desktop client, will get to see a few of these changes.
- Require authentication when joining a meeting/webinar – EnforceAppSignInToJoin – Windows, macOS, iOS
Disabled by default, this requires the desktop client or mobile app to be signed in to a Zoom account to join any meetings or webinars. If the host requires specific authentication, the user joining will have to pass that specific authentication check as well. - Install the latest version automatically – AlwaysCheckLatestVersion – Windows, macOS
Disabled by default, if a user’s version is lower than the newest available version, then the app will download the newer version automatically. - Disable the use of Closed Captioning – DisableClosedCaptioning – Windows, macOS, iOS
Disabled by default, this disables the use of closed captioning in meetings or webinars. - Disable the use of Q&A – DisableQnA – Windows, macOS, iOS
Disabled by default, this disables the use of Q&A in webinars
Happy Zooming!
