Gen. Ed. Outcomes Component
As of Fall 2025, instructors teaching General Education (Gen Ed) courses should notice a new component added to their syllabi in Simple Syllabus. A component labeled “Gen. Ed. Course Learning Outcomes” is replacing the original Course Objectives/Student Learning Outcomes component in Gen Ed course syllabi.
The new component will automatically import official learning outcomes for your Gen Ed courses. This means you no longer have to worry about making edits or re-publishing them whenever changes come through. This is all taken care of by the automated daily imports in the system.
You should also note that this component behaves like other automatically populated components in the syllabus. While you can’t edit this new component, you can still create a new one for any additional details you’d like to add. Then, it’s just a matter of using the Reorder button in the syllabus editor to place your new component below the Gen Ed one so that your extra content appears below the automatic stuff. Furthermore, if you were using the previous course objectives component for other content, don’t worry about losing your past work. You can still use the Import button and specifically select how you want to bring that previously created content into new or existing components.
Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that this component will only appear for Gen Ed courses. Syllabi for courses that do not have the Gen Ed attribute will not be affected by this change.
New Student Support Resources
The Student Support Services component also received an update to condense its list of resources and include a statement from the Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL). We also added an internal component (only visible to faculty when editing syllabi) with extra resources from the CTL and other student success centers at Florida Atlantic. Faculty can copy and paste resources from this list into the blank, editable component where they were listing extra resources before.
