Video-conferencing applications provide a means to hold meetings and live lectures with individuals, small groups, or even big audiences over the internet. Cisco\u2019s WebEx<\/em> is one such application that provides communication via video and\/or audio, while incorporating interactive tools that can simulate many of the devices and scenarios that we encounter in offices, classrooms, and lecture halls.<\/p>\n

Applications for WebEx<\/em> vary greatly. We can meet individually with students to go over their assignment submissions, while making live annotations to their documents. We can also host an interactive session between our students and a guest speaker, allowing the speaker to present PowerPoint slides, videos, and other documents. Perhaps the main benefit of an application like WebEx<\/em> is that it facilitates meaningful and accessible interaction with students and guests through the internet. Because it has been incorporated into Canvas here at FAU, you can easily create sessions between yourself and the students within your courses.<\/p>\n

The following videos will guide you through two processes: (1) setting up WebEx<\/em> within the course(s) where you would like to implement it and (2) conducting an interactive conference session while looking at tools for sharing documents, videos, slides, or applications.<\/p>\n

If you have never installed\/used WebEx<\/em>, make sure you start from the first video (Setting Up WebEx<\/em>). Since these videos are a little lengthier than the other Quick-Tip episodes, it is recommended<\/em> to follow along while pausing to implement the tasks discussed in the videos.<\/p>\n
