Canvas Quick-Tip Video: Importing the FAU Course Template

Posted on Posted in Quick How-To, Tips and Tricks, Uncategorized

At first glance, an empty Canvas course may seem like it needs plenty of time and hard work to get it to up and running in time for the beginning of the semester. It’s quite the undertaking to start completely from scratch with a blank course and still have to worry about settings and options that define the functionality of your course. For this reason, Canvas allows you to import course templates that take care of a lot of the general setup for you. They provide an easy way to populate your course with lots of infrastructure and empty placeholders that you can then customize and edit to your liking. They also handle settings and options that may seem a bit overwhelming when developing your course.

The following video will guide you towards importing the FAU Course Template, provided by Instructional Technologies. It also introduces you to Canvas Commons – a place where you can find pre-made assignments, modules, pages, and more for you to use in your course. Please note: It is recommended that the FAU Course Template be imported into a course without content. Adding the template to a course with content may overwrite already existing content.
