*Please note: FAU will retire use of Webex on June 30, 2023. The Webex platform will no longer be available for use in meetings after this date. Webex will be removed from Canvas on May 8, 2023, at the end of the Spring term. Users should download any important cloud recordings or meeting information before this date. Zoom and Microsoft Teams will still be available for meetings and office hours sessions.
For assistance with Zoom or Microsoft Teams, visit our TechEvents Calendar or schedule an appointment with one of our staff here.*
Throughout the last year, the COVID-19 pandemic threw videoconference usage into overdrive. More than ever, the FAU community relies on services like Webex and Zoom to conduct meetings, hold virtual conferences, collaborate, and host or attend online classes. We’re all learning new ways to interact with each other every day and increasingly depending on the stability of these systems as we adapt to them.
As usage in Webex and Zoom rises, so does the need to secure your sessions from intrusion and interruption. Both platforms have scheduler settings that help prevent incidents before they happen. They also feature in-meeting buttons and functions for retaining control of a session in the event of a disruptive incident. Online meeting security starts with proper scheduling settings and continues into the live meeting phase.
OIT has put together resources to help you secure your upcoming Webex and Zoom sessions. Links to those documents are at the end of the post. We’re also launching a new podcast – The Tiny Help Desk – whose premiere episode will be about (you guessed it) security in Webex and Zoom sessions. Podcast episodes will be hosted on the page linked here. Visit The Tiny Help Desk page to listen to previous episodes and get info on upcoming ones.
Our staff has also added a new session to our rotation of trainings and webinars titled Keeping your Zoom and Webex Sessions Secure. Visit the TechEvents Calendar here for a calendar of upcoming sessions. Click on any event for more info and registration details.
Lastly, if you’re planning virtual sessions and want to confirm that your settings are good to go, or just want to learn more about the above, use our scheduler to book a one-on-one appointment with any of our staff.
