Posted on Posted in New Feature, New Tool, Updates

Fall 2023 has arrived along with new features to Canvas to help you in the classroom! The Instructional Technologies team has got your back and is ready to help with any Canvas needs and questions as you get your courses up and ready to publish. Our services include workshops, one-on-one appointments, general support, and other resources to get you ready to teach with Canvas and its integrated tools. Check out the documents and tips below to get started:

  • Publish your syllabi and courses:
    • Have you created your syllabus yet? Simple Syllabus is a recent update to our set of tools that integrates with Canvas and allows instructors to edit and publish syllabi for with ease. We’ve got written instructions as well as a video to guide you through the process.
    • Make sure that your syllabus and course are published by the first day of classes, as this allows students to begin creating their schedules for the semester and understand your expectations for the course.
    • Remember that you don’t need to finalize all of your course materials before publishing your course on Canvas. Selectively publish materials throughout the term by leaving specific modules, discussions, pages, assignments and quizzes in a draft state until you are ready for your students to see them.
  • Check out new Canvas features:
    • The Gradebook in your Canvas course(s) has been updated with a slightly new view and features that allow the creation of custom filter presets that customize which assignments/students are in view. There are also new options available by clicking the gear icon at the top-right of the Gradebook page to enable/disable specific options such as the assignment group summary columns, grade total/override columns ,etc. For more information on this update, check out the links below:
