With the Summer 2024 term underway, we want to ensure you and your students are set for successful videoconferences this semester. Below are a few details regarding Zoom’s latest update to its desktop application and how they will enhance you and your student’s experience.
With version 6.0.4, Zoom gave its desktop app a new name – formerly Zoom Desktop Client, now Zoom Workplace – as well as a significant facelift. The former program is now Zoom Workplace and comes with a customizable navigation and meetings toolbar.
Upon starting a Zoom meeting, you’ll notice the meeting toolbar has a new set of icons. Though the functions remain the same for all buttons, they’ve received visual updates for a modern look. If you use the “light” appearance for the app, you’ll also notice that you can change the color theme applied to your app/meeting window.
Another change you might notice is a new name for your meeting’s security options, now titled Host tools. This button still has the same functionality for keeping your sessions secure and customizing your students’ and attendees’ Zoom experience. Most of these security features are on by default, but if you wish to lock down the meeting down further, check out the options available within the Host tools button.
A few other features for meetings include:
- A simplified and customizable toolbar to turn on the AI Companion, screen sharing, and host tools.
- A multi-speaker view allows multiple speakers to be in sight in a meeting.
- Themes and AI-powered portrait lighting that can brighten you up in dimmer rooms.
- Enhanced sound quality with voice isolation to help your voice sound clearer and suppress background noise.
