Call for First-Year Connections Mentors

Mentoring makes a difference for new students.
Here at FAU, students paired with a mentor had almost a 7% higher retention rate than students without a mentor.

The Mentoring Project is seeking faculty, staff, and graduate students on the Boca, Jupiter, and Davie campuses who are willing to mentor a new first-year or transfer student. After filling out a brief profile, we match you with a student based on shared academic interests, activities, and goals.

Not sure you have the experience?
Previous mentees identified “an ability to listen” as the most important quality in a mentor. We seek mentors who have finished a bachelor’s degree – the goal that our undergraduates are working towards.

Not sure that you have the time?
Mentors and mentees agree to connect at least once per month during the academic year. In roughly eight hours, you could make a difference in a student’s decision to remain in college.

If you are willing to listen and to share your experience and advice, we have students looking to connect with you. For more information, visit fau.edu/mentoringproject or call us at (561) 297-2733. To sign up, please click here. We will begin matching students with mentors in early January 2021.

Thank you for the time you devote to FAU students and for your consideration.

Covid-19 Leave Donation Plan

Florida Atlantic University has established a COVID-19 Leave Donation Plan. The plan allows qualified employees to donate accrued leave (annual leave or sick leave) into a pool for use by leave-earning employees adversely affected by this public health emergency.

Examples of hardship include personal medical emergencies, quarantine mandates, or the inability to work or work remotely. Generally, employees who are most likely to benefit from an initiative like this are our lower salaried staff. Therefore, we encourage those of you who are able to donate hours to please contribute to this worthy cause. There is no minimum amount, all donated hours are appreciated and valued.

All the information about donating leave and requesting to receive donated leave can be found here.

For general assistance with policies, procedures and COVID-19 inquiries, please contact FAU’s Human Resources department at askhr@fau.edu or 561-297-3057.
