Boca Raton, Florida – Florida Atlantic University will present Students Fight Back, taking place at the Wimberly Library, and featuring Nicole Snell, international speaker.
The FAU Office of Owls Care Health Promotion, Student Government, the Wimberly Library, and the FAU Healthy Campus 2020 Initiative are proud to bring Students Fight Back for the first time. For over 20 years, Students Fight Back has been empowering millions of people in colleges and other organizations across the country to be their own best protectors in combating violence of all kinds! Students will learn valuable violence prevention tools that have been talked about on the Nike Trained Podcast, Women’s Health Magazine, the CBS Early Show and CNN as well as in The New York Times, Runners World, and Cosmopolitan. Students Fight Back was developed from the need to expand on the original Girls Fight Back curriculum and bring a message of safer campuses to a gender inclusive audience.
The program includes:
Using your intuition
Safety strategies – awareness & verbal boundaries
How to be an active bystander and a good ally
The definition of consent
How to support a survivor
How to set boundaries that work for you
Verbal de-escalation skills
The basics of self-defense
Plus, a discussion of improvised weapons, ground fighting, and how to sign up for a full-contact adrenaline-based self-defense course near you!
The event is Thursday, November 17, 2022, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., on the 5th Floor of the Wimberly Library on the Boca Raton Campus. It is open to all FAU students; advanced registration is not required, and space is limited. Please bring a student ID to enter the venue and to check-in at the event.
