Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 03/22/2012 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window.  In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

When: 5:00 AM – 6:00 AM
Affected services:  blackboard
Affected systems:  bbm1, bbc1,bbc2, bba1-6
Description:  we will be applying a recommended security patch to the blackboard servers.  We will be restarting the service after the patch is applied.
User Impact: Blackboard will be online, but some user sessions may be interrupted during service restarts.

When: 5:00 AM – 6:00 AM
Affected services: EMS
Affected systems: sql05vs, fauweb1
Description: EMS has released monthly patches for EMS, VirtualEMS, and MasterCalender apps and databases.
User Impact: EMS will be online, but some user sessions may be interrupted during service restarts.

When: 3:00 – 4:00am
What: fausftp reboot for patches
Potentially affected systems: banner production or banner test scripts and all other systems that are scripted to use the fausftp system for file transfers
Description of Maintenance: The fausftp server is being rebooted for patches.
User impact: Users who have automated scripts running to upload or download files during the reboot time may find that their files may not have transferred.

When: 3:00am – 6:00am

Affected systems:  taldb,talapp01, talapp02
Description:  we will be applying hot fix 16 that was released by the vendor
User impact:  talisman will not be accessible during down tine but we expect no impact on users.

When: 3:00 AM – 6:00 AM
Affected Services: Mailing lists, Password Sync, PhoneBill, Network Registration Affected Systems: lintalon0, lists, idm1, idmgatewayp
Description of Maintenance: These virtual machines will be shut down so a clone of each may be created for provisioning at NWRDC.
User impact: lists and idm will be offline during the maintenance. Mail sent to lists during its downtime should be queued and retried by the mail server. PhoneBill and Network Registration are expected to remain online.

When: 3:00 AM – 3:30 AM
Affected Services: OwlApps.fau.edu
Description of Maintenance: Owlapp’s automatic push to banner functionality will be disabled in preparation for the Banner Migration over the weekend.
User impact: Owlapp.fau.edu will be unavailable during this maintenance.

We experienced systems failure this morning starting at 4:00am. On-campus access to the Internet was affected as well as many other services. At this time Internet access has been restored.

What: Netapp OS upgrade
When: 3:30am-6:30am
Potentially affected systems: Blackboard, HyperV clusters (Xitrax, VPN auth, DNS, VirtualApps, Broadcast, DHCP, Graduate Application, Identity Manager, PhoneBill, Network Registration, Lists, SharePoint, Talisma, Xitracs)
Description of Maintenance: The OnTap OS is being upgraded from 8.0.2 to 8.0.2P4.  A firmware update to fix battery charging is also being applied.
User impact: None is expected because of the failover capabilities of the storage controllers

What: Server reboots
When: 3am-4am
Affected systems: bbloraclealt, fausftp, fausftp2, echoftp, banoradev (new/Linux), bannerprd (new/Linux)
Description of Maintenance: The servers are rebooting for kernel updates.
User impact: None

What: IDM production database migration
When: 4am-6am
Affected systems: Identity manager and password sync
Description of Maintenance: The IDM production database is being migrated from Solaris to Linux
User impact: Any user who attempts to change their password between this time

What: Network time server migration of boobook.fau.edu and tawny.fau.edu
When: 3am-4am
Affected systems: Any server that uses these time servers.
Description of Maintenance: The time servers are being migrated from Scientific Linux to Oracle Enterprise Linux
User impact: None, they will be done one at a time
