OIT Systems Maintenance, Thurs. 3/21 from 3:00AM to 7:00AM

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 03/21/2019 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window.  In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

Decommission Mail Server
Description of change: OIT will be decommissioning a legacy mail server.
Downtime window start: 3:00 AM
Downtime window end: 6:00 AM
Affected services: Exchange Email
Affected systems: Exchange servers
Expected End-user impact: During this time, mail flow between Office 365 and Gmail users may see delays during the cutover between the two Exchange servers

Server Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will update our list serv application, Sympa, to the newest version​
Downtime window start: 5:00 AM
Downtime window end: 6:00 AM
Affected services: Sympa (mailing lists) will be unavailable during the update
Affected systems: Sympa (mailing lists)​
Expected End-user impact: During this time, there will be no mailing list messages being delivered.  Messages sent to the mailing lists should be queued and sent out once the system is back operational.

OIT will be performing emergency network maintenance beginning on Saturday, March 16 from 11:30 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 17. Due to the nature of the maintenance, users may experience intermittent network outages lasting approximately 30 minutes during this window.

SSO Upgrade
Description of change: OIT will be upgrading the ​prompting system in the Single Sign On System so users of slower services do not see the continue button if they do not have any tasks to complete.
Downtime window start: 3:00 AM
Downtime window end: 5:00 AM
Affected services: All Systems that uses SSO including Canvas, Workday, and others.
Affected systems: Shibboleth servers
Expected End-user impact: During this time, single sign on (SSO) may stop working for about 10 – 15 minutes while we redeploy the prompting service.

Server Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will be upgrading the software on a directory connector server.
Downtime window start: 3/13/19 @ 10:00 PM
Downtime window end: 3/14/19 @ 6:00 AM
Affected services: Directory synchronization between FAU Active Directory and Azure Active Directory (Office 365)
Affected systems: Azure Active Directory server
Expected End-user impact: During this time there is minimal to none end-user impact. New FAU accounts may take a bit longer to populate into Office 365 but synchronization should be back to normal by mid-morning.

Populate Work Telephone in AD
Description of change: OIT will be populating FAU worker telephone numbers into Active Directory in preparation for new phone system.
Downtime window start: 5:00 AM
Downtime window end: 6:00 AM
Affected services: Active Directory, IDM
Affected systems: Active Directory, IDM
Expected End-user impact: During this time, no end-user impact is expected. After the upload, applications that use “telephoneNumber” attribute from Active Directory may begin to show it in contacts. If office phone number is incorrect please reach out to HR partners (department liaisons for updating Workday information). Workday Primary Work Phone Visibility flag will prevent phone numbers form showing in AD.

Mediasite maintenance – 3/16/2019

Sonic Foundry will be performing maintenance on Mediasite Cloud Servers during the scheduled maintenance window on March 16th between 1:01AM EST and 5:00AM EST.  This maintenance requires taking the environment offline, and as such the site will not be available during this window. We do not anticipate any downtime before or after the designated window.

Affected services: Report Caster production, ODS production, MSOP instance and Blackboard.​
Affected systems: boc22ora01, boc22ora03, odsprod, bbloracle​
Expected End-user impact: During this time, services that listed ​above will be unavailable at times.

Description of change: OIT will be installing a new mail server to eventually replace an older one.

Affected services: Exchange
Affected systems: Exchange server
Expected End-user impact: During this time, no end-user impact is expected.

Description of change: OIT will be performing maintenance on some backend storage.  No end-user impact is anticipated.
Downtime window start: 5:30 AM
Downtime window end: 7:00 AM
Affected services: No services will be affected.
Affected systems: The NetApp cluster
Expected End-user impact: During this time, end users may see data access to the ANDI shares pause for a very short duration.

Network Maintenance – Early Morning Sunday March 3rd through Friday March 8th

OIT will be performing network maintenance between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. during the spring break week, Sunday March 3rd through Friday March 8th. During this two-hour window each day, network connectivity may be intermittent for short periods of time. Expected campus network disruptions are as follows:

Monday, March 4th – Fort Lauderdale, Davie, and Harbor Branch campuses will experience a network outage lasting approximately 20 minutes during the window

Tuesday, March 5th – Jupiter and NWRDC will experience a network outage lasting approximately 20 minutes during the window

Wednesday, March 6th – The BHRIC network on the Boca Raton campus will be unavailable for approximately 20 minutes

In addition to the specific impacts noted above, specific network segments or hosts may experience brief disruptions during the remainder of the maintenance windows, although major services are expected to be operating normally.
