OIT Systems Maintenance, Thursday, Sept 5 from 3:00 AM to 5:00 AM

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 09/05/2013 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window.  In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

Banner and Blackboard

When: Wednesday, Sept 4 at 11:00 PM
Affected services: SCCM client
Affected systems: Client desktops
Description of maintenance: Update the SCCM client on machines supported by User Services/OIT to SP1.
User impact: Limited impact. Users may need to reboot their systems to complete installation.  Most systems, if necessary should reboot during the maintenance window.

When: 3:00 am – 4:00 am
Affected services: Series 25 , ANDI web interface (https://home.fau.edu and https://student.fau.edu), https://fair.fau.edu, https://purchasing.fau.edu
https://ulrweb.fau.edu, https://secure.fau.edu/*, https://secure2.fau.edu/changeGappsPassword, Housing data interface (bridge between housing sites & DB and Banner).
MyHousing (for residential students to see their housing assignment etc.) and Apply online (apply for housing) websites.
Affected systems: Bocdcfau01, Bocdcirm01, S128n87, S128n88, S20n28, Fauweb1
Description of maintenance: We are relocating several physical systems in the datacenter including windows authentication systems, department of housing systems, and Series25 systems.
User impact: The services and systems mentioned above will be unavailable for approximately 5-10 minutes during the maintenance window

When: 5:00 am
Affected Services: All clients on Boca Campus
Affected Systems: All clients on Boca Campus
User Impact: None expected
Description of Change:
We plan on adjusting the DHCP provided DNS for the Boca Campus to include DNSBOC0.fau.edu, DNSBOC1.fau.edu, and DNSDAV1.fau.edu instead of only dnsboc0.fau.edu and dnsjup1.fau.edu. We expect this to improve the quality of service provided to clients in the event of a failure in Boca.

When: 3:00 am to 6:00 am.
Affected Services: Banner production, Blackboard production.
Affected Systems: bannerprd, bannerprddr, bbloracle, bbloracledr.
Description of Change: Oracle database patch set updates and host patch installations
User Impact:  Affected services will be unavailable during the maintenance window.

[Resolved] Intermittent Network Connectivity issues for Comcast users

We have been informed by our ISP that the issues with network connectivity for Comcast users has been resolved as of 5:44p.m. There was an equipment failure at an upstream provider. We have performed some preliminary tests and the issue appears to be resolved.

[Update] Intermittent Network Connectivity issues for Comcast users

Our ISP has discovered an issue with Internet2, one of our upstream service providers. Issues with Internet2 are affecting several services including slow access to services hosted by Amazon Web Services and connections to and from Comcast users. These issues are affecting several universities in Florida. We will provide additional updates as we receive them from our ISP.

FAU’s Internet Service Provider is looking into the issues regarding Comcast users being able to access FAU services.  We will post updates as we have more information.

There have been reports that Comcast users may have difficulty accessing FAU services such as MyFAU, Blackboard, and the FAU web page. We are investigating the problem and will update this notice soon.

[Resolved] Intermittent issues affecting connectivity to Blackboard and MyFAU

OIT staff identified an issue with some of the systems that MyFAU, Blackboard, and the FAU homepage are dependent upon and has taken corrective actions. We believe the issues experienced tonight are resolved but will continue to test and monitor the situation.

Intermittent issues affecting connectivity to Blackboard and MyFAU

OIT has been receiving reports of slowness and inability to access Blackboard, MyFAU, and the FAU website starting shortly before 5:00p.m. today. OIT staff is currently researching the issue and hopes to have all services restored to normal operation shortly.
