OIT Systems Maintenance, Thurs. Nov 10 from 12:01AM to 7:00AM

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 11/10/2016 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window.  In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

Migration of virtual servers to new BigIP load balancers (SSO)
When: 5:00AM – 6:00AM
Affected services: Single-Sign On (SSO)
Affected systems: Bigip Load Balancers
Description of maintenance: Our current BigIP load balancers are being upgraded, so we are moving secure websites hosted by the old ones to the new ones.
User impact:  SSO will be inaccessible for 5 minutes. (more than likely 5 seconds)

Migration of www and Myfau to the new BigIP load balancers
When:  5:00AM – 6:00AM
Affected services:  FAU website and MyFAU
Affected systems: BigIP Load balancers​
Description of maintenance:  ​Our current BigIP load balancers are being upgraded, so we are moving secure websites hosted by the old ones to the new ones
User impact: Users may experience a brief interruption while trying to access these websites

Oracle quarterly DB patches (bannerprd and odsprod)
When:  3:00AM – 7:00AM
Affected services: Banner and ODS production along with services that are tied to the these systems such as jobsub, appworx, dars, and cleanaddress​
Affected systems:  bannerprd, odsprod, sctcache1-7, sctforms-2​
Description of maintenance:  Applying Oracle PSU to DB’s on hosts bannerprd and odsprod​
User impact:  Users will be unable to login to Banner or ODS during the period the database is offline.  This should be no longer than 1 hour.​

Oracle quarterly DB patches (bbloracle)
When:  3:00AM – 7:00AM
Affected services:  Blackboard Production​
Affected systems:  bbloracle​
Description of maintenance: Applying Oracle PSU to DB’s on host bbloracle.​
User impact:  Blackboard will become temporarily unavailable during the maintenance window.​​

When:  3:00AM – 7:00AM
Affected services:  Oracle Identity Manager production
Affected systems:  boc22ora07, boc22oimp1, boc22oimp2​
Description of maintenance:  Applying Oracle PSU to DB’s on host boc22ora07
User impact:  The OIM system will be unavailable for a short period.  During this time, account changes will not be processed and the self-service interface will be unavailable.​

When:  12:01AM – 2:00AM
Affected services:  phone billing​
Affected systems:  boc22comm1
Description of maintenance: Upgrading verasmart software​
User impact:  no phone billing during this time​

External DDoS Attack Affecting Connectivity to Non-FAU Sites and Services

An external denial of service attack is affecting connectivity to many large sites and services external to FAU. These services include Workday, Paypal, Twitter, Ellucian, Spotify, Reddit, Soundcloud, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and many other services. At this time, connectivity to the sites mentioned and many others on the internet may not be possible until the issues are resolved. This attack is not directed at FAU, but it is affecting access to many services on the internet for users inside and outside of FAU.

Affected services: None expected as there are two ldap servers

Description of maintenance: Adding more storage space to an FAU directory server that stores user information.
User impact: None expected

Martin County FLR L2VPN connection turn up
When: 12:00AM – 1:00AM
Affected services: No impact expected
Affected systems: Internet Router and Firewall Boca
Description of maintenance: New connection to Martin County over Primary FLR link is being turned up for researchers. ​Change will add trunking to internet router and interfaces to FW.
User impact: No Impact Expected

[Network Recovery] Recovery from internet performance issues

FAU’s primary internet connection is back up and associated performance issues have been resolved at this time.

[Network Notice] Degraded internet performance

FAU has lost it’s primary internet connection and all traffic is currently utilizing a backup connection. The backup connection has limited capacity so we are currently operating in a state of degraded performance and network connectivity to and from FAU will be sluggish. We as that users refrain from large file transfers until the issue is resolved. We will update when we have further information.

[Recovery] Network Performance Issues

The connectivity issues with FAU’s ISP have been resolved and the network including connectivity to the internet should be operating at normal capacity at this time.

Network Notice – Degraded Internet Performance

FAU’s primary internet connection is unavailable due to a possible fiber cut beyond FAU’s control. FAU is currently operating over a slower, secondary connection. All services are currently available, but network speeds to the internet will be slower than normal until FAU’s primary internet connection is restored.
