Slow Network Performance – Emergency Network Maintenance @ 4:00p.m. – 4:10p.m.
FAU has been informed by our ISP about extremely high traffic load due to the recent release of Apple iOS 7. FAU has noticed a 2-3x increase in traffic load occurring around noon. Due to the increased load, many services including the Wireless network, Banner, MyFAU, Exchange, Echo360, Blackboard, and streaming media are experiencing significantly degraded performance. OIT is preparing to implement an emergency change to relieve the performance issues at 4:00 p.m. today. At 4:00p.m., the FAU wireless network will have a short period of downtime with a potential disruption of other services within FAU.

OIT Systems Maintenance, Thurs. Sept 19 from 3:00AM to 7:00AM
Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday,09/17/2013 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window. Description of maintenance: OIT is migrating the database schema associated with the Travel Z# Request Application from a test Oracle instance MSOT to the production system MSOP.

Description of maintenance: The DNS entry for smtp.fau.edu will be updated to point to Ironport servers. The internal smtp server is no longer required because Ironport antivirus licenses have been acquired and activated.
User impact: We do not expect any end-user impact, but if users have hard-coded the current IP or used the host name instead of smtp they would lose access to the smtp server and not be able to send mail.

Network: Internet outage at 2:41 pm
We experienced an Internet outage from 2:41 – 2:42 pm. There was a loss of light to our Internet Service Provider. We are investigating to determine the root cause of the problem.

[resolved] Guest Wireless, Password synchronization and user account provisioning offline
** Update – All services have returned. We are continuing to investigate the cause of the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Guest wireless, Password synchronization, PrivateEye, and account creation is currently offline. For example, this will prevent newly set passwords and newly created users from accessing Windows Computers, MyFAU, and Blackboard.
We are working to resolve the issue and will update this post regularly.
