The cloning of Banner DEVL is complete and now available for all to access.
OIT has placed departmental and special share drives fully online with the exception of N: drive which will remain read only until further notice. OIT has rebuilt the majority of systems infected with the Vobfus/ChangeUp virus, and several systems have been disabled from accessing FAU network until staff members have the opportunity to get these systems rebuilt and placed back online. We anticipate a small number of systems might still be infected with this virus, since not all systems connect to FAU network on a regular basis. If any such system is identified in your area, please turn off the system and contact FAU Helpdesk to take corrective actions.
We appreciate everyone’s patient and understanding in this matter, and do apologize for the delay in making these shares read/write. This was necessary to contain this virus the most effective way.
Thank you
The cloning of Banner TEST is complete and now available for all to access.
Shared drives including Q:, N:, O:, P: and special drives are now available in a read-only state. OIT has cleaned up the virus infections from the shared drives. However, while OIT works to finish containing the virus and starting the rebuild process on any affected desktops, users will not be able to make changes or place any new files on the shared drives. Users can access the files that were available when access to the shared drives was removed yesterday. You may need to log off and log back on to your computer to be able to access the shared drives. OIT is working to restore full access to the shared drives as soon as possible.
Further updates will be posted as they become available.
We would like to provide you with an update regarding this latest strand of computer virus:
– This latest computer virus is called ChangeUp. – It is a self-evolving computer virus thus it is more difficult to catch. – Microsoft has no solution to clean this virus as of this reporting, and we are in the process of contacting Microsoft as well. Their lines and support center are inundated. – Symantec has information to contain this computer virus; however, there is no clean up solution short of restoring the Operating System. – Currently, we have 15 reported cases on campus and we are in the process of contacting these users to restore their systems. – Share drives will be taken off line at 2:00PM today in order to move this service behind FAU Firewall. This will prevent new strands of this virus from reaching these shares. – Symantec anti-virus will continue to run to identify variations of this virus on well over 200 shares over the next 48 hours. – Well over 100 sites around the country that are distributing this virus should be blocked based on recommendations from Symantec. We are in the process of blocking these sites.
As more information becomes available we will share it with you. In the meantime, share drives consisting of drive Q:, N:, O:, P: and special drives will be taken off-line for emergency migration behind the firewall.
We truly apologize for this; however, this virus is serious and it has already infected several major organizations around the country.
