[Completed] Network upgrades to cause service outages in building 22 on Friday, May 10 2013, between 3:00 am and 6:00 am

On Friday, May 10 2013, between 3:00 am and 6:00 am, the Networking team will replace a core copper switch in the FAU data center. This upgrade will cause an interruption to the network and telephone systems on the FAU Boca Raton campus.

[Update] Blackboard Service Pack 11 Upgrade

The Blackboard service pack 11 upgrade is taking longer than expected. All servers have been updated to the planned version but we are working with Blackboard support to correct 1 issue, all other reported issues have been resolve.

  1. Some My Blackboard (Social Networking) features are currently unavailable and users may receive an error when attempting to create a My Blackboard profile.

Please note that at is no risk of any data loss do to these issues.

Blackboard Service Pack 11 upgrade

The Blackboard service pack 11 upgrade is taking longer than expected. All servers have been updated to the planned version but we are working with Blackboard support to correct 3 issues.

  1. Some My Blackboard features are currently unavailable.
  2. Some course functions such as changing themes, opening menus and creating content may not work as expected.
  3. Users may receive the error message: Request/doCourseMenuAction] does not contain handler parameter ‘cmd’. This may be caused by whitespace in the label text.

We are working with Blackboard to resolve these issues and will update this message by 7:30 am.

OIT Systems Maintenance, Thursday May 9 from 3:00AM to 7:00AM

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 05/09/2013 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window. In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

The following services will be unavailable during the maintenance window: Exchange, Blackboard, MyFAU, Video Conference

When: 12:00 AM – 7:30 AM
Affected services: Blackboard
Affected systems: Blackboard
Description of maintenance: The goal of this upgrade is to install the latest Blackboard service pack. This includes several security improvements as well as the addition of new features and enhancements to blackboard.
User impact: Blackboard will be unavailable during the upgrade.

When: 3:00 AM – 6:30AM
Affected services: Exchange Email
Affected systems: Exchange
Description of maintenance: The Exchange servers will be moved to a new location and linked to a new network switch. Windows updates will also be applied to all Exchange servers.
User impact: The Exchange service is highly available, however users may experience brief interruptions in service from Outlook, OWA, IMAP/POP and ActiveSync clients during the window.

Description of maintenance: We are going to perform a periodic maintenance of My FAU.
User impact: MyFAU will be unavailable during this time. All services that rely on MyFAU’s ldap server for authentication will be down.

Description of maintenance: Middleware will be enabling a new feature on MyFAU to export course content (files/photos) so that they may be imported into an instructor’s blackboard course. MyFAU’s tomcat server will be restarted which will make it inaccessible between the hours of 5-6 AM.
User impact: MyFAU will be unavailable between the hours of 5-6 AM.

Description of maintenance: Enable the beta FAUVisitor Wireless Network on the Boca Raton Campus.
User impact: After FAUVisitor has been enabled, visitors on the Boca campus can now log on to a wireless network on campus without having to request a courtesy account.

Description of maintenance: The Cisco videoconference infrastructure system is being updated to the latest software versions.
User impact: End-user impact will be minimized at this time, because there are no classes in session and no videoconferences scheduled in this time frame. Specific areas have been contacted and are aware of the downtime.

Description of Maintenance: A new uplink (trunk mode) will be activated on the BigIPs in order to introduce new vlans to it.

Description of Maintenance: An updated digicert wildcard SSL key will be installed on the BigIP to replace the current wildcard that is going to expire on June 16, 2013.

Description of Maintenance: It has been determined by the vendor that we may have a faulty power supply on our standby BigIP unit. We will power down the standby unit, swap the power supply, and start it back up.

Description of Maintenance: Increase memory allocated to the IEADATA virtual machine from 4GB to 8GB.
User Impact: The IEADATA server will be unavailable. Attempts to access any of the reporting features or shared volumes will not function.

[Completed] Scheduled Maintenance – Echo 360 Course Video System – May 7, 7:00AM – 10:00AM

Updates to the Echo360 course video system are complete.

Echo Player streaming class videos and audio/video podcast downloads are available again.

Personal Capture users will now be prompted to update their client to the current version when they start the software.

MyFAU sign-in is very slow

The MyFAU page loads ok, however when signing in, it takes a long time to get connected (3-4 minutes). Issue has been escalated
