OIT Systems Maintenance, Aug 31 from 12:01AM to 7:00AM

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 08/31/2023 from 12:01 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window. In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:


Server Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will be performing server maintenance on several core systems from 12:00am to 4:00am on August 31st. During this time, the undergraduate application, MyOwl Services, Owl KPIs, and Owl Files will be unavailable.

End-user impact: During this time, the undergraduate application, MyOwl Services, Owl KPIs, and Owl Files will be unavailable.


Accreditation system upgrade
Description of change: OIT will be updating a system associated with the accreditation program

Downtime window end: 08/31/2023 6:00 AM
Affected services: Xitracs
End-user impact: During this time, the accrediation program will be unavailable.


Server Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will be updating components to ensure document management websites remain secure.

Affected services: Onbase document management
End-user impact: No end-user impact is expected.


Server Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will be updating components to ensure user account information servers (LDAP) maintain their secure communications channel.

Affected services: Applications that are custom configured to rely on the OUD (Oracle Unified Directory) and LDAP servers directly instead of their frontend BigIP entry point.

Updates to Banner Registration Servers
Description of change: The Banner Self-Service 9 Registration environment will be re-configured to better support our students during registration periods.

Remove legacy configuration from Authentication Services

Server Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will be updating the software on one of its management servers.

Affected services: Advanced VPN clients
End-user impact: Advanced VPN clients will show that they are disconnected from their management server. This will not impact VPN/remote access.


Waive orientation hold for newly admitted NextEra & JM students
Description of change: OIT will update orientation holds for any NextEra & JM student

Upgrade the image on the University wireless controller
Description of change: OIT will be upgrading the image on the University’s wireless server for security reasons.

[RESOLVED] Apps.fau.edu will be unavailable the morning of 8/29/23 due to stability enhancement changes

OIT will be performing changes to apps.fau.edu in order to improve stability of the site the morning of 8/29/23, between 3AM and 7AM. During this time apps.fau.edu will be down.

Mediasite Update

Sonic Foundry will be updating Mediasite Video Cloud to the latest release during the scheduled maintenance window on August 27, between 1:01 AM and 5:00 AM EDT. Extended downtime is not expected. However, Mediasite may be unavailable for brief periods during this time.

[RESOLVED] Email Delivery Issues



FAU is currently experiencing issues with email delivery. OIT is currently investigating the issue and anticipates that these issues will be resolved shortly. Following the resolution to this issue users may experience delayed email delivery for any emails that were sent during the outage.

Simple Syllabus Working Slower Than Usual

Simple Syllabus is experiencing slow-downs and sporadic errors because of start-of-semester web traffic. They have notified us that they are addressing this issue through the evening to bring things back up to speed.

[Completed]OIT Network Maintenance

OIT will be performing network maintenance affecting all campuses wireless and Boca campus wired services on Tues August 15th from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. During this maintenance window, there will be limited internet and access to campus technology services will be interrupted.

RESOLVED – Ellucian Banner (Self-service/Admin) Production Service Unavailable

Update 8/14/23 9:33AM:

The Ellucian team resolved the issue with all Banner services. Users should now be able to log back into services and process any requests that were previously failing. The OIT team is also working on restarting all jobs and processes that may have failed due to this issue. All services are now reported to be restored.

Our Ellucian Banner system is currently experiencing issues, all applications related to Banner are impacted: Banner Admin, Banner Self-Service, Workflow, etc.

Users may see error messages stating that records cannot be inserted. We have raised a priority 1 case with our Ellucian Managed Services Provider and they are working at identifying the problem and will restore the service as quickly as possible.
