OIT Systems Maintenance, Thursday, June 6 from 3:00AM to 7:00AM

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 06/06/2013 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window. In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

When: 6:00 – 6:30 AM
Affected Systems: Symantec Servers (seeker4, seeker5 and vkiller3)
Description of Maintenance: Upgrade to latest version.
User Impact: None — update will be done one at a time — approximately 5 minutes each server.

When: 5:00 – 7:00 AM

Affected Systems: Bert, NS, Seeker2, Seeker3, Irmftp, faujsa
Description of Maintenance: Systems will be physically moving 6 servers from RU04 to RU05 in order to make space for new hardware.
User Impact: During the actual move of
Bert: master dns server; should be no user impact.
NS: one of 3 outward facing nameservers; should be no user impact as the other servers are live.
Seeker2 and Seeker3: 2 of 4 symantec gateways; perhaps email will be slowed down a little.
Irmftp: no access to irmftp; scripts running at time of move will be unsuccessful.
Faujsa: no access to faujsa; Jewish Sound Archives site will be down.
When: 5am to 6am.
Affected Services: google migrator, graduate admissions application, network registration.
Affected Systems: enzo, boc22ora03
User Impact: Affected services will be unavailable during the maintenance window.
Reason: Schemas and data for listed services are being migrated from enzo to boc22ora03.

When: 5:00AM – 6:00AM
Affected services: Appworx
Affected systems: Appworx
Description of maintenance: The Apache web services for Appworx production (FAUP) will be upgraded.
User impact: Appworx users will not be able to access the web console. Jobs will continue to run.

When: 5am to 7am.
Affected Services: ODS production environment. Webfocus won’t be able to connect to the ODS database.
Affected Systems: odsprod
User Impact: Affected services will be unavailable during the maintenance window.
Reason: Oracle database patch set updates and host patch installations

3:45pm – UPDATE: DHCP services have been restored.

 

DHCP is currently unavailable. No new DHCP leases will be provided at this time.

In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

When: 6:00-6:30AM
Affected services: Blackboard, Ibiweb, Filelocker
Description of maintenance: A new virtual switch will be put in place to provide high availability on the storage network for virtual systems.
User impact: The following services will be unavailable for a short period of time:
Blackboard
Ibiweb
Filelocker

When: 5:00 – 6:00 AM
Affected Systems: events.fau.edu(fauweb5,fauappsrv2,sql05vs)
Description of Maintenance: EMS, VirtualEMS, and Master Calendar IIS sites, databases, and connectors will be patched and upgraded to their latest versions.
User Impact: Users sessions will be interrupted and they will need to login again.

System Center Updates Modifications:
Description of maintenance: Force systems who may have missed previous defined maintenance windows to install Windows Updates (XP, Vista, 7, and 8) with a deadline. Devices will begin enforcing this policy May 16th at 7 AM after the OIT defined maintenance window.
User impact: Users who have consistently had their systems off during previous OIT maintenance windows may experience temporary reductions in system speed while updates are being installed. Users will receive a message box about restarting their systems. This will continue every month as Microsoft issues updates.

In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

The following services will be unavailable during the maintenance window: Exchange, Blackboard, MyFAU, Video Conference

When: 12:00 AM – 7:30 AM
Affected services: Blackboard

Description of maintenance: The goal of this upgrade is to install the latest Blackboard service pack. This includes several security improvements as well as the addition of new features and enhancements to blackboard.
User impact: Blackboard will be unavailable during the upgrade.

When: 3:00 AM – 6:30AM
Affected services: Exchange Email
Affected systems: Exchange
Description of maintenance: The Exchange servers will be moved to a new location and linked to a new network switch. Windows updates will also be applied to all Exchange servers.
User impact: The Exchange service is highly available, however users may experience brief interruptions in service from Outlook, OWA, IMAP/POP and ActiveSync clients during the window.

When: 4:30 AM – 6:00 AM

Description of maintenance: We are going to perform a periodic maintenance of My FAU.
User impact: MyFAU will be unavailable during this time. All services that rely on MyFAU’s ldap server for authentication will be down.

Description of maintenance: Middleware will be enabling a new feature on MyFAU to export course content (files/photos) so that they may be imported into an instructor’s blackboard course. MyFAU’s tomcat server will be restarted which will make it inaccessible between the hours of 5-6 AM.
User impact: MyFAU will be unavailable between the hours of 5-6 AM.

Description of maintenance: Enable the beta FAUVisitor Wireless Network on the Boca Raton Campus.
User impact: After FAUVisitor has been enabled, visitors on the Boca campus can now log on to a wireless network on campus without having to request a courtesy account.

Description of maintenance: The Cisco videoconference infrastructure system is being updated to the latest software versions.
User impact: End-user impact will be minimized at this time, because there are no classes in session and no videoconferences scheduled in this time frame. Specific areas have been contacted and are aware of the downtime.

User Impact: The IEADATA server will be unavailable. Attempts to access any of the reporting features or shared volumes will not function.

Wednesday 4/17 Networking Department will be upgrading the network equipment in building T05 the Property Management building. The work will be done from 5:00am to 7:00am. Buildings T10 (Arts and Letters/Nursing) and T11 (Small Business Development Center/ROTC) will be affected by this upgrade.

Network Maintenence Bldg 8W Student Health Services

Network maintenance in Bldg 8W completed for today.

Starting Monday 3/18 Networking Department will be upgrading the network equipment in building 8W the Student Health Services building. The work will be done from 5:00am to 7:00am daily until all interface ports have been moved to the new equipment. All work will be completed by Friday 3/22. This does not affect the PCI network.
