Next week the Networking department will install a new router at the Ft. Lauderdale campus location. This new device will provide a secondary FLR (Internet) connection on a diverse path through Orlando. This FLR connection is automatically activated if the FAU/Boca primary FLR connection (through Miami) is lost. The new device will replace the existing Ft. Lauderdale network core and provide a redundant path for the remote FAU campus locations through the ATT Metro Ethernet cloud. Please see the following timeline for the network upgrades planned for next week.
Monday, 8/16/2010 (5:00 – 7:00 am) No outages or downtime expected Tuesday, 8/17/2010 (5:00 – 7:00 am) The Ft. Lauderdale network core will be replaced starting at 5:00 am. Outages will be experienced on the Ft. Lauderdale campus between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 am as the new equipment is installed. Wednesday, 8/18/2010 (5:00 – 7:00 am) The secondary FLR connection in Ft. Lauderdale will be enabled by turning off the primary Internet connection on the Boca Raton campus. All of the FAU data network segments should be rerouted to the Ft. Lauderdale connection during this test. All FAU campus locations will experience a brief loss of connectivity as the primary and secondary Internet connections are tested. The primary Internet connection will be enabled after the testing has been completed. Thursday, 8/19/2010 (5:00 – 7:00 am) No network changes scheduled Friday, 8/20/2010 (5:00 – 7:00 am) The secondary Internet connection in Ft. Lauderdale will be tested again by turning off the Metro Ethernet connection and the primary Internet connection on the Boca Raton campus. All of the FAU data network segments should be rerouted to the Ft. Lauderdale connection during this test. All FAU campus locations will experience a short loss of connectivity as the primary and secondary Internet connections are tested. The primary Internet connection will be enabled after the testing has been completed.
