OIT Systems Maintenance, Thurs. March 12 from 3:00AM – 7:00AM

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 03/12/2015 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window.  In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

Single-Sign On for Office365
When: 4:00AM – 5:00AM
Affected services: Office 365, Outlook on 365, Health on 365, Microsoft Azure
Affected systems: adfs.fau.edu and its cluster members
Description of maintenance: Configure Office365 to use sso.fau.edu for authentication. This will allow users visiting various systems include Blackboard and MyFAU to directly access Office365 without needed to enter their password again.
User impact: There will be no downtime. Users will be able to access Office365 services without re-authenticating after logging into any Single Sign On Service such as Blackboard and MyFAU

Decommission Blackberry system
When: 6:00AM – 6:15AM
Affected services: Blackberry Enterprise Server​
Affected systems: besnode01​
Description of maintenance: OIT will be decomissioning ​the Blackberry Enterprise Server. All users with Blackberries are now using ActiveSync to send/receive mail and BES is no longer needed.
User impact: No end-user impact is expected​

When: 5:00AM – 6:00AM
Affected services: Blackboard
Affected systems: Blackboard
Description of maintenance: Apply Hotfix to fix issue with Blackboard Enterprise Surveys
User impact: Blackboard temporarily unavailable​

Single Sign On Maintenance Complete

The maintenance to the Single Sign On system has been completed. Please report any problems to the Help Desk at helpdes.fau.edu.

Phone Service upgrade – Fort Lauderdale Campus (HEC building)

FAU’s Office of Information Technology and AT & T will be working on all the phones in HEC (Fort Lauderdale Campus) today. At approximately 2pm today, the current system will be removed and phone service will be unavailable. FAU’s OIT staff will be working throughout the afternoon and going office to office replacing the old telephones with new phones. We fully expect the new system to be operational by the end of the day.

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 03/05/2015 from 12:01 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window. In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

Upgrade NetApp filers bocana03 and bocana04
When: 6:00AM to 7:00AM
Affected services: ANDI drives
Affected systems: bocana03, bocana04
Description of maintenance: Upgrade NetApp filers bocana03 and bocana04 from 8.1.4P2 to 8.1.4P7, which contains the latest security fixes.
User impact: There might be a ​30 second pause while filer fails over to its partner. If so, try reconnecting to network drive.

Blackboard Building Block Updates
When: 3:00AM to 6:00AM
Affected services: Blackboard​
Affected systems: Blackboard​
Description of maintenance: OIT will be updating several Building Blocks including : Retention Center, Achievements, Blackboard Mobile, and Self and Peer Assessment
User impact: Blackboard will be intermittently unavailable during this process which will require multiple restarts​.

LDAP Account Lockout
When: 12:00AM to 12:05AM
Affected services: Self Service, Single Sign On, Blackboard, Shibboleth, CAS, Google Applications, and NetID authentication.
Affected systems: ldapboc0, ldapboc1, cas1, cas2
Description of maintenance: To decrease the likely hood of users accounts being attacked via single sign on we plan to lock accounts for 5 minutes after 10 failed logins.
After implementation users who fail to successfully login to single sign on 10 times will have their accounts locked for 5 minutes. This change will help protect numerous services from potential data breach.
User impact: SSO will be offline for a short period of time while we upgrade the CAS server.

Glibc patch reboot
When: 12:00AM to 12:15AM
Affected services: PCI-DNS, DNS forwarder for PCI systems​
Affected systems: ​All systems on PCI networks that utilize DNS
Description of maintenance: OIT will reboot a server that was recently converted from from redhat linux to scientific linux and patches were applied including glibc update.
User impact: No impact is expected. Although clients cache their DNS responses, we are planning the maintenance during a time that PCI services are not in use in order to be cautious.

NetApp storage filer Upgrade, Tuesday Mar 3, 2015

The Office of Information Technology will be upgrading NetApp storage filers tomorrow between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.  Applications may see a 30 second pause while the filer fails over to its partner.
