Emergency network repair Friday 9/19/2014 starting at midnight

Due to ongoing problems with the fiber from the vendor that provides Internet and Network Connectivity to FAU, there will be Emergency third-party maintenance that will sporadically affect connectivity to the campus from midnight until 2:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19. We are making efforts to ensure that most services including Blackboard and MyFAU are available as much as possible through the maintenance by utilizing backup internet connections and disaster recovery procedures. However, there may be intermittent and sporadic losses of connectivity due to the nature of the outage.

You can monitor the status of services at http://www.fau.edu/oit throughout the evening for updates.

For on-campus residents, services should continue as usual including outside access to the Internet. Users from off-campus may be unable to reach some services overnight starting at midnight. We apologize for the unavoidable disruption of services.

Emergency Internet Maintenance from Midnight until 6:00 a.m.

Due to ongoing problems with the fiber from the vendor that provides Internet and Network Connectivity to FAU, there will be Emergency third-party maintenance that will sporadically affect connectivity to the campus from midnight until 6:00 a.m. We are making efforts to ensure that most services including Blackboard and MyFAU are available as much as possible through the maintenance by utilizing backup internet connections and disaster recovery procedures. However, there may be intermittent and sporadic losses of connectivity due to the nature of the outage, including a 20 minute disruption in service around 2:00 a.m.

For on-campus residents, services should continue as usual including outside access to the internet with the exception of the 20 minute disruption at 2:00 a.m..  Users from off-campus may be unable to reach some services overnight starting at midnight.  We apologize for the unavoidable disruption of services.

OIT Systems Maintenance, Thurs. Sept 11 from 3:00AM – 7:00AM

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 09/11/2014 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window. In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

Affected services: The listed Blackboard tools will may be unavailable durning the update, and may continue to be unavailable until after Blackboard is restarted
Affected systems: Blackboard​
Description of maintenance: OIT will be updating as many of the following Building Blocks as possible during the downtime window: Software Updates, Cloud Profiles, Social Profiles, Partner Cloud, Content System, SafeAssign, Collaborate, Cengage Mindlinks, Wiley Plus, McGraw Hil, Textbook, Bookshelf, xpLor​
User impact: Users may be unable to access the tools listed. Other areas should continue to function

Description of maintenance: Per Ellucian Case #1180758, install Oracle patch 18331282 on forms servers to resolve the bug with radio buttoms causing the form to hang.
User impact: Anyone on Production Banner INB would be kicked out of system.

Description of maintenance: Upgrade Apache to version 2.4.10

Description of maintenance: OIT are adding a new virtual network to the BigIP load balancers​

Emergency network outage and repair Tuesday 9/9/2014 starting at 11:00 pm

Due to problems with the Fiber from the vendor that provides Internet and Network Connectivity to FAU, there will be Emergency repairs that could affect connectivity to the campus starting at 11:00 pm. These repairs are required to address an imminent, more catastrophic failure. Though most services should continue to work through our backup connection, there is the possibility of intermittent connectivity as well as the loss of some services. You can monitor the status of services at http://www.fau.edu/oit throughout the evening for updates.

For on-campus residents, services should continue as usual including outside access to the internet. Users from off-campus may be unable to reach some services throughout the evening starting at 11:00 pm. We apologize for the unavoidable disruption of services.

[resolved] Blackboard unavailable

All Blackboard systems are back online and available for use.  We thank you for being patient while we resolved this matter.

[update.1] Blackboard unavailable

OIT has traced the problem related to tonight’s Blackboard problem to the database which supports the Blackboard environment.  As a result, it degraded the performance and caused the application to become unavailable.  Full service is expected to be restored by 9:30pm.
