OIT Systems Maintenance – Thurs. Jan 4 from 3:00AM to 4:00AM

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks on Thursday, 01/04/2018 from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM during OIT maintenance window.  In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:

Server Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will be making some changes on our main proxy server (octopus.fau.edu)​,  two internal DNS servers (dnsboc0, dnsboc1),  two time servers (ntp1, ntp2) and DHCP servers to allow for future network optimizations.
Downtime window start: 4:00 AM
Downtime window end: 5:30 AM
Affected services: Any OIT or other departmental servers residing on internal 10.x FAU networks that rely on octopus.fau.edu as the proxy server to connect to the outside internet. Any internal clients relying on dnsboc0 or dnsboc1 to resolve DNS entries. Any internal clients relying on ntp1 and ntp2 for time synchronization. Any internal clients attempting to obtain a DHCP IP during the moment of maintenance
Affected systems: octopus.fau.edu, ntp1, ntp2, dnsboc0, dnsboc1, dhcpboc0, dhcpboc1
Expected End-user impact: During this time, there will be intermittent loss of connectivity on the Boca campus to the outside for servers and services that rely on octopus.fau.edu. Intermittent loss of connectivity on Boca campus to the internal and external sites due to clients not being able to resolve DNS. Intermittent loss of time synchronization abilities on Boca campus. Intermittent​ loss of ability to obtain an IP on Boca campus due to DHCP servers being down.

Network maintenance on Jan 3 from 4:00 am – 5:30 am

OIT will be performing network maintenance on Wednesday, January 3 from 4:00 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. Due to the nature of the maintenance, users may experience intermittent Internet outages lasting approximately 15 minutes during this window.

Description of change: OIT will be performing configuration changes on this server (idmgatewayp.fau.edu) to allow for future optimizations to the FAU network.
Downtime window start: 5:30 AM
Downtime window end: 6:00 AM
Affected services: IDM
Affected systems: idmgatewayp.fau.edu
Expected End-user impact: During this time, there is no end user impact as this server performs internal IDM operations.

Affected services: OIT jira project tracking and confluence knowledge base

Expected End-user impact: During this time, there will be intermittent connectivity to jira project tracking or confluence knowledge base

Description of change:  OIT will be upgrading the Global Traffic Manager (hereinafter referred to as GTM) for Boca and NW for compatibility of health monitors and TLS 1.2
Downtime window start: 2:00 AM
Downtime window end: 7:00 AM
Affected services: We do not expect any services to be affected by the upgrade as we will be changing DNS entries for the affected services.

Yahoo cloud latency issues

We are experiencing latency issues with some sites in the yahoo cloud. Our WAN providers have been made aware and are currently working to resolve with yahoo.

Network Maintenance – Ft. Lauderdale Campus 12/22 5:30am – 6:30am

Expected End-user impact:  During this time, users could see a delay in password resets during the maintenance window.

Description of change: OIT Networking will be making changes to the network in bldg. 96 to improve network performance.
Downtime window start: 5:00 AM
Downtime window end: 6:00 AM
Affected services: Brocade VDI Users
Affected systems: Building 96 VDI hosts.
Expected End-user impact: During this time there will be a brief outage. After the change, users should see improved network performance.
