OIT Systems Maintenance

Office of Information Technology will be performing routine systems maintenance which includes but is not limited to rebooting Windows servers as deemed necessary, installing critical patches and other health checks from Wednesday, 10/08 until Friday, 10/11 between 12:01 AM to 7:00 AM. In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:


Microsoft 365 Login Adjustments
Description of change: OIT will be making adjustments to Microsoft 365 sign-in restrictions. End user impact is expected to be minimal.
Downtime window start: 10/09/2024 7:00 AM
Downtime window end: 10/09/2024 7:05 AM
Affected services: Microsoft 365 and Azure services including VPN.
End-user impact: Compromised accounts will no longer be able to be accessed prior to remediation by OIT. Administrative accounts will only allow signing from geographically local locations.


Banner Database updates
Description of change: Ellucian will be performing quarterly patch updates on Banner and other related database servers.

Affected services: Banner production, Appworx, Harvest, Follett bookstore, Oracle Enterprise Manager, ODS, Data Warehouse, Self Service, Touchnet
End-user impact: Banner will be unavailable during this time


Banner Interface update for intersession classes
Description of change: Modifying Banner registration page to display a new warning message for intersession courses.

End-user impact: No end-user impact is expected during the maintenance.


Updating civic literacy process in Banner
Description of change: The BOG has approved the new Civics Literacy requirements effective Fall 2024. Modifying the process to include two courses to be in compliance with the BOG.

Affected services: Banner
End-user impact: No end-user impact is expected during the maintenance.


Advanced VPN Client Updates
Description of change: OIT will be pushing additional updates to user running the Advanced VPN client starting October 8th, 2024. Users will receive a notification to upgrade their VPN client and they will be prompted to reboot their device afterwards in order to apply the changes.

Affected services: Advanced VPN
End-user impact: Users running the Advanced VPN client will be prompted to upgrade their client. If the user chooses not to upgrade, it will be automatically scheduled for later in the evening. Following the upgrade process, the user will be prompted to reboot their device.

[RESOLVED] Banner Services Outage

We have restored all services at this time. If for some reason something is not working, please first close all your browser windows and try again, and/or restart your computer. If the service still does not work, please submit a Help Desk ticket.

Update: 10/03/24 7:11AM:

Services are now being restored. We have a few Banner services now up. Thanks for your patience as we restore all services. We will provide an update once we know all services are functional.

MESSAGE 1: 10/03/24 6:13AM:

All Banner services, and also services that rely on Banner data, are currently unavailable. Users may experience problems with multiple applications such as: Self Service, Banner Admin, MYFAU webparts, Registration, grading, reporting, etc. We are currently working on the issue and trying to restore services as soon as possible. We will provide updates throughout the morning.

In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:


Upgrade Jupiter WAN switch
Description of change: OIT will be upgrading the wide-area network (WAN) switch in Jupiter
Downtime window start: 10/02/2024 6:00 AM
Downtime window end: 10/02/2024 7:00 AM
Affected services: Internet access for the Jupiter campus will be out during this time.
End-user impact: The Jupiter campus will lose network during the cutover


Forticlient Upgrades – Building 22 – Wednesday October 2nd
Description of change: OIT will be deploying Advanced VPN client updates to users of Building 22 starting at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday October 2nd. OIT staff will be prompted to install updates to their VPN client software after that time.

Affected services: Advanced VPN Clients in use by OIT staff
End-user impact: OIT staff will be prompted to update their VPN Client software. User may delay installation until later in the day if they wish, but installing the update will require a reboot shortly thereafter.


Forticlient Changes for a subset of IT Staff
Description of change:
Downtime window start: 10/02/2024 7:00 AM
Downtime window end: 10/02/2024 7:05 AM
Affected services: NETSEC VPN for Networking and Security staff
End-user impact: Users should not see any impact if they are connecting from a university-owned and managed device. If a user tries to connect to the NETSEC VPN from a personal device, they will receive a failure message when logging in.


Server Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will be performing Banner server maintenance.
Downtime window start: 10/03/2024 3:00 AM
Downtime window end: 10/03/2024 4:00 AM
Affected services: Banner
End-user impact: Banner will be unavailable during the window


Server upgrade
Description of change: OIT will be upgrading the Appworx system
Downtime window start: 10/03/2024 4:00 AM

Affected services: Appworx production
End-user impact: Appworx will be unavailable during this time.


BHRIC Network Maintenance
Description of change: OIT Will be performing network maintenance affecting the BHRIC network from 12:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. on Friday October 4th. During this time, connectivity between the BHRIC networks and the rest of FAU on the Boca Raton campus will be briefly interrupted.

Affected services: Systems on the Boca Raton BHRIC network
End-user impact: Systems on the BHRIC will have a momentary loss of connectivity as the new changes are applied and routes reconverge

In addition, the following systems will be specifically impacted:


Advanced VPN Client Updates
Description of change: OIT will be deploying VPN client upgrades to devices using the Advanced VPN client starting September 25th, 2024. After this date, users with outdated VPN clients will be prompted to automatically update to the current version of the client.
Downtime window start: 09/25/2024 12:00 AM
Downtime window end: 09/25/2024 12:05 AM
Affected services: Users using the Advanced VPN client including FAU PD.
End-user impact: Users with outdated VPN clients will be prompted to update to the newest version automatically. After the upgrade is complete, users will be prompted to reboot their computer.

Description of change: OIT Will be performing maintenance on the management server for the Advanced VPN on Saturday September 28th. During this time newly installed client installations during the maintenance may be unable to receive configuration changes, however existing clients should be able to connect to the VPN without issue.

Affected services: Advanced VPN configuration updates
End-user impact: Users installing the Advanced VPN client during the maintenance may not receive configuration from the management servers until after the maintenance. Users with the Advanced VPN client installed should be able to connect to the VPN normally during the maintenance.

Description of change: OIT will be performing server maintenance on 9-18 at 11:00pm-12:00am affecting Sunapsis.

Affected services: Sunapsis
End-user impact: Sunapsis will be unavailable during this time.


Server Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will be performing server maintenance on 9-18 at 11:00pm-12:00am affecting Assessment, Crosswalk, Grademan, Software license order page, Techfee, and Transient.
Downtime window start: 09/18/2024 11:00 PM
Downtime window end: 09/18/2024 11:30 PM
Affected services: Assessment, Crosswalk, Grademan, Software license order page, Techfee, and Transient
End-user impact: No end-user impact is expected since these are incremental security updates.


Server Migration
Description of change: OIT will be migrating several virtual machines to new hardware.
Downtime window start: 09/19/2024 4:00 AM
Downtime window end: 09/19/2024 6:00 AM
Affected services: DHCP, Internal DNS, Tatooine (EDUROAM RADIUS Server), Grouper2 (Group Management App Server)
End-user impact: The impacted services will be unavailable during the window, however no end-user impact is expected as these are secondary servers.


Network Maintenance
Description of change: OIT will be performing network maintenance affecting all campuses from 12:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. on Saturday September 21st. During this time, all FAU campuses will experience short outages impacting connectivity to services and the internet.

Affected services: All services will be impacted briefly. Some services that do not handle network disruptions may need to be restarted.
End-user impact: All campuses will experience brief outages during the maintenance window affecting connectivity to all services

[RESOLVED]AT&T users may experience issues accessing Single Sign On and Office 365

Microsoft has confirmed an outage which is impacting AT&T users. If connected to AT&T, you may experience issues accessing FAU sites that use Single Sign-On, or any Microsoft Office 365 application.

[RESOLVED] – Banner Maintenance – Update 2

UPDATE 09/13/2024 1:39AM:

All Banner services are now operational. If you experience any issues report them to the OIT Help Desk.

UPDATE 09/12/2024 2:12PM:

Banner Admin services have been restored, however, currently Banner Self-Service is offline. We will be restarting all services after 10:00PM tonight in order to apply fixes and get Banner Self-Service online again. This will be an emergency maintenance session that can only be performed in the evening. We appreciate your understanding.

UPDATE 09/12/2024 12:11PM:

We are currently having issues with Banner Admin and Banner Self-Service after a major upgrade this morning. We are working with Ellucian to restore services as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience as we try to get Banner fully operational again.

UPDATE 09/12/2024 8:00AM:

Please note that the Banner maintenance is taking a bit longer than expected.

You may experience intermittent access issues with the following services as we are at the last phase of deployment and restarts:

E-Transcripts, Students Registration, Banner Access Management, and Banner Administrative Pages

We anticipate that the maintenance will be completed by 9:30am.
